Why Pilates?

Joseph Pilates said that pilates is, “the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind and the ability to perform life's daily activities with zest and ease.”

The Pilates method, developed over six decades by German born athlete and physical therapy pioneer, Joseph H. Pilates (1883-1967), is an integrated approach to movement, requiring activity and awareness throughout the whole body. Full body means: mind, body and spirit.

The depth of the work is achieved in the honoring of the following Pilates principles:

  • Breath

  • Concentration

  • Centering

  • Control

  • Precision

  • Flow

With specialized equipment, created by Joseph Pilates, the practice of these principles promotes and enhances overall well being.

  • Toned muscles and balanced forces at the joint level

  • Improved circulation, flexibility, and alignment

  • New neuromuscular patterns

  • Heightened body awareness and coordination

  • Injury prevention

  • Alleviation of chronic pain
